How many of us find ourselves doing things that maybe we are not proud of because we have a void in our lives? Chronic depression is at an all time high today more so than ever. Why do you think this is? Most would say that due to the circumstances around us, we just don't have much HOPE. Let's face it, the financial markets, Washington, economic indicators, etc. have not given us much hope over the last year or so.
The easy thing to do is to become judgemental to somebody that has vices that are unbecoming. Many people have addictions that they just don't know how to release and to seek freedom from. Whether it is Drugs, Alcohol, Pornography, Depression, etc. people are struggling. It is not our job to tell them to just get over it, or that they need to grow up. Further more it is not acceptable to say under our breath that we are glad that we do not have faults like they do. In one way or another, we as humans have things that we are dealing with. This is part of being human. We should always be working on something on a daily basis as we grow towards complete surrender to Christ. This does not however mean that we succomb to making excuses and just wash it away.
The void I speak about can only be filled by Jesus Christ. I have tried other ways, and have counseled many people with various "Void Filling Vices." I am pleased to say that by trial and error, I have found the solution. Please understand that there is a difference between needing a hobby because you are flat out bored, versus trying to find that "Hope" and satisfaction in life that can only be filled by Jesus. A hobby might be as difficult as determining the right thing that puts a smile of enjoyment on your face. Filling that Void in your life with Jesus is as simple as surrendering your life so that an everlasting joy is stamped on your soul forever! I encourage you to fill the void, and if you have, help others to find Peace...
