How is your Tongue being used? 10/31/2009
Do you even wonder why we say some of the things that we do? Sometimes things just come out of our mouths that in retrospect, we would love to take back. A few years back there was a television show that Bill Cosby hosted entitled, "Kids say the Darndest Things." This was properly named as most of us know that kids do not know how to exercise restraint when it comes to speaking. This is a trait that we grow into and is not easily learned. I find it very intriguing that many adults still never learn that time honored trait of thinking before they open their mouths. It is one thing to regret what comes out of your mouth, soon after saying it. It is a whole seperate matter when an adult just doesn't seem to care what was just said. It is very intimidating for me when I hear some of the things that come out of my kids mouths. Intimidating might not be the correct word here, but it is hard to know what word truly fits the situation. Take for example when I was driving down the road the other day and my son shouts at the person in front of us, "Come on Moron, where did you learn how to drive." Man, did my son just say that? What was he thinking? What are they teaching these kids in school nowadays? When I turned around to correct him, he simply shrugged and said, "I learned that from you." OUCH... You know what I am talking about. Those are the painful moments in life where we just sit back and acknowledge that we have a long way to go. I find it very interesting that in the Bible the tongue is referred to as a two-edged sword, and the Word of God is as well. We can see in Proverbs where it talks about using the tongue in a negative fashion, and challenges us to put a guard around about it. Then in Hebrews 4:12, it states "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." In closing, the tongue is meant to be used with wisdom and power speaking life into the very dead souls of man. Not to bring death throughcondemnation and curses. I challenge you to exercise wisdom and speak words of life in this dying world. Welcome.... My First Post 10/28/2009
